“The Case of the Curious Cookies” 🍪

Sunday’s church potluck was going beautifully - until the cookie platter hit the table.

Peggy Whitfield, known for her perfectly soft cinnamon cookies, set down a tray with her usual confidence and that signature “try one, you’ll thank me later” smile. And everyone did.

But within a few bites, a quiet confusion spread across the fellowship hall. Folks began setting cookies aside, smiling politely, and reaching for sweet tea in unison. Kelly Crenshaw whispered to Shannon, “Do these taste… different?” Shannon nodded slowly. “Let’s just say the Lord’s testing my taste buds.”

The mystery grew all afternoon - until that evening, when Peggy arrived for Sunday night service laughing so hard she could barely breathe.

“Well,” she announced, “I finally figured out why my kitchen smelled funny this morning. Turns out, I grabbed the cumin instead of the cinnamon! So you can all stop wondering if I was trying a new recipe - unless you count taco cookies!”

Laughter filled the pews, and Pastor Miller declared it the best mystery Maple Gap’s ever solved.

Moral of the story: Always label your spice jars… or at least keep your cumin far from your cookies
